The Salesians of Don Bosco opened their first institution in Kerala at Vaduthala, Kochi. Then onwards they opened various institutions in southern Kerala. As the years passed a need was felt to open some houses in the Malabar region. At an initial stage, a parish and the orphanage at Mattul in the diocese of Calicut fulfilled this desire. But due to various reasons the Salesians had to abandon their presence at Mattul.
Then Bishop Sebastian Mankunzhikary , the Bishop of the then newly formed Diocese of Thamarassery invited the Salesians to his diocese. He wanted the Slesians to look after the youth of his diocese. Initially He wanted to give the parish of Mukkom to the Salesians. But later Salesians were asked to start work for the neglected and educationally backward youth of the catholic settlement regions of the diocese. Mampetta was found to be a suitable place and a technical school was found to be the best way to bring up the youth. With this view in mind 12.77 acres of land and another plot of 15 cents with a small house was bought on 15th December 1989 with the approval of the provincial and his council. The little house was repaired and Salesians came to stay there from May 1990. The province approached Fr. Provost, the secretary of Comide, who visited our province in April and proposed the idea of a technical school at Mampetta. He suggested preparing a project and submitting it at the earliest. Fr. J Joseph the then Economer with the help of others started working at the project and it was approved by the Comide.
The foundation stone for the new Institute was blessed by Dr.Sebastian Manunchikary and Fr. Thomas Myladoor the then provincial of Bangalore laid the foundation stone on January 31st 1993. The building was completed after five years and it was officially blessed by Bishop Paul Chitilappily, the then bishop of Thamarassery and inaugurated by Fr.Mathew Maruvathrail the then Provincial of Bangalore on 8th September 1998.
